In Recognition of Excellence in Research and Writing
Have you written a research paper for an 911³Ô¹Ï course in the past academic year?
The 911³Ô¹Ï Libraries are sponsoring the annual Marjorie Thorpe Memorial Award, where students are encouraged to submit any research paper prepared for any 911³Ô¹Ï course during the 2025/2026 academic year.
The grand prize is $200.
Entries must include:
- A one page essay which:
- Briefly describes the assignment for which the paper was written (1-2 sentences).
- Reflects on the process of conducting research and steps taken in gathering information.
- Discusses how the research process benefited you: new information or skills learned
- A copy of your research paper in Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF format
- Papers must be a minimum of 3 double-spaced typed pages
- Papers must include evidence of library research (minimum of at least 3 cited sources)
Entries will be judged on:
- Variety and quality of sources (30%)
- Writing Style (30%)
- Accurate and appropriate use of references (20%) - Form of citations in the bibliography and in the text
- One page essay (20%)
